Some athletes are said to have “built” their respective franchises, but Frank White literally helped to build the Kansas City Royals with a summer construction job that erected Royals Stadium, now Kauffman Stadium, and coming up through the former Royals Academy.
The eight-time Gold Glove winner was a part of Kansas City’s reign as one of baseball’s jewel franchises, when the club reached the playoffs seven times from 1976 to ’85, which culminated in a seven-game victory over the Cardinals in the I-70 Series that provided the Royals with their lone championship.
